Day 2 – Ridgeland, SC to Springfield, GA

Ben and Katie sent me off with a good breakfast and lots of good wishes, picture below (sorry for the blurry picture). Took off around 8:45 am and the weather cooperated for the first hour or so, then went through some showers that actually felt good compared to yesterday’s heat. Mostly narrow two lane roads but in good condition. Made it to Springfield before the downpour and thunder started around 1:30 pm and lasted a couple of hours.

While keeping out of the rain in a local pub, Kelly’s Tavern, I met a couple who helped me get a place to stay tonight in a big motorhome with a group of motorcycle riders at a gathering in a local exhibit park. Sorry I don’t have the groups name but will post it tomorrow. A group of very nice people promoting education.

How is the pack working out? What was your average speed and total miles etc. Did you meet the guy at Parris Island gate?

Pack is working well, better without those 4 lbs I shipped back. Aerage moving speed has been about 12 mph and I’ve done about 100 miles so far (i’m posting my Garmin logs on Facebook)/.
Yes, I got to meet Capt Patrick, very nice guy and he took a spin on the ElliptiGO.

Climb was not too bad and I will enjoy the flats as long as I can. Thanks again for your hospitality.

We saw you outside Tillman, SC (the group of cyclists going the other way) and put it together when i read the article in the Island Packet today. http://www.islandpacket.com/2012/03/23/2011503/former-marine-sets-out-on-cross.html

Good luck to you and the cause!
